Infrastructure Architect

Location

Milwaukee, WI

Defines, builds, and supports the software infrastructure and tools used by the application development teams to build business application systems. This position also understands and resolves business and technical issues and performs logical system and data modeling.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluates software packages, ensuring that they fit in the architecture and infrastructure.
• Identifies the impact of proposed changes at a system level and on interfacing systems; translates application development requirements into architectural requirements.
• Helps define standards related to core infrastructure areas, assists teams in designing infrastructure solutions, and defines small-scale infrastructure decisions.
• Conducts thorough system test of new or upgraded infrastructure components; works with application development teams to validate new or changed architecture components.
• Provides timely and accurate on-call support for production infrastructure components.
• Coordinates and executes infrastructure-related projects.
• Plans and manages software upgrades and installation.
• Conducts walkthroughs with the developers for standards compliance, performance considerations and correct us of infrastructure components.
• Works with business partners, team members, and IS staff to ensure smooth development and installation of assigned projects.
• Communicates the impact on other systems of proposed new infrastructure components or modifications.
• Ensures and maintains clear and concise system and functional documentation.
• Reports on assigned projects' status to business partners and IS management.
• Provides feedback to team members and to project lead regarding individual performance of assigned team members.
• Works with outside vendors to ensure smooth development and installation of purchased software to ensure resolution of outstanding issues.
• Provides training or mentoring to large groups on one or more tools or architecture concepts as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong experience with many of the following technologies: Java, Business Objects, MQ, WebSphere, WebLogic, UNIX, Tibco.
• Displays willingness to accept responsibility, displays initiative, good judgment and a positive attitude.
• Demonstrated ability to act decisively and promptly.
